Checklists help you create your to-do items and check them off when completed.

Create checklists

Simply tap/click the checklist icon in the formatting bar to insert a checklist item.

You can also type [] with a space to or use the shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + 9 to make a checklist on desktop.

Complete a checklist item

When completed, simply tick the box to mark it as done.

Your text in the checklist item will be grayed out. You may change the style of text for completed to-do items from Settings > Editor > Completed todo items

On desktop, you may also use the shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + 9 to toggle the state of your todo items. If you want to add a completed todo item, you can type [x] with a space.

Your notes which contain incomplete todo items will appear in the Todo filter in the sidebar.

Reorder checklist items

  • On desktop, use the shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + Option + up/down arrow to move the checklist item up/down

  • On mobile, tap the move list up/down icon in the formatting bar
