# Create a space

Spaces help you organize notebooks into larger categories. By default, all your existing notes and notebooks belong to a built-in space called **General**. You can rename this default space, but it **cannot be deleted**.

***

#### 🖥 On Desktop (Windows, Linux & macOS)

To create a new space:

1. Go to **Settings → Spaces**.
2. Select **+ New space**.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/lPjMp0BysxRi00wmzS2R" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
3. Enter a name for your space.
4. (Optional, Premium only) Turn on **Lock** if you want the space to be protected.\
   ![](/files/0VA1pgFFImzRpquBIjCv)\
   \
Your new space will appear in the sidebar, ready for you to add notebooks to it.

***

#### 📱 On Mobile (iOS & Android)

1. Open **Settings → Spaces**.
2. Tap the **+** button in the top-right corner.\
   ![](/files/Z5XjjkNIqvAWtYxdIfRW)
3. Enter your space name and save.

***

#### 💡 Tip

Consider creating a space specifically for archiving notebooks you no longer use frequently. This helps keep your main workspace clean while still allowing easy access to older content.
