# Page break

Page breaks let you control where a new page starts when you print or export a note as a PDF. They are useful for organizing longer documents and keeping sections together.

### Add a page break

1. Open a note.
2. Place the cursor where you want the new page to start.
3. Open the **Formatting bar** menu
4. Select the **Page Break** icon <img src="https://3053791484-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FFt4LISrSRa6fHrbSIdcE%2Fuploads%2Fa1PmVnt5XLfgeWZrScgL%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=a80f9575-5e7c-4881-8d05-4955717469cc" alt="" data-size="line">

A page break will be inserted at the cursor position.

* On desktop, you can also use the shortcut `Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + P` to insert the page break.
* On mobile, please swipe to the right to see more options. You can also rearrange the order of the formatting icons by swiping to the right end of the bar and select "Edit".

### Remove a page break

To remove a page break, place the cursor next to the page break and press **Backspace** or **Delete**.

### Page breaks and PDF export

Page breaks are primarily used to control the layout of printed notes and PDF exports. They do not add extra blank lines or spacing to the note itself.

You can use page breaks to:

* Start a new chapter or section on a new page.
* Separate different parts of a document.
* Keep a heading at the beginning of a new page.
* Organize reports, assignments, and other long documents.
