Lock password
UpNote allows you to lock notebooks or the entire app for extra privacy. The lock password works differently on desktop and mobile to give you convenient and secure access on each device.
Note: UpNote does not support locking individual notes. To protect a specific note, place it inside a locked notebook.
🖥 On Desktop (Windows & macOS)
Default Lock Password
Your account login password is used as the default lock password on desktop.
Change the Lock Password
If you'd like to use a different lock password—or match it to your mobile passcode—you can change it here:
Go to Settings → General → Lock → Change lock password.
Set a new lock password.
You can still unlock using your account password if needed.
If You Forget the Lock Password
If you cannot remember your lock password:
Click Sign out on the lock screen.
Sign back in with your account password.
The lock password will reset to your account password.
You may change it again in Settings if needed.
📱 On Mobile (iOS & Android)
Set a Passcode (First-Time Setup)
When you first enable a lock for a notebook or for the entire app, UpNote will prompt you to set a 6-digit passcode.
Change Your Mobile Passcode
You can update your passcode anytime:
Go to Settings → Passcode Lock → Change Passcode.
Enable Biometrics (Touch ID / Face ID)
For quick access:
Go to Settings → Passcode Lock → Enable Touch ID / Face ID.
If You Forget Your Passcode
If you forget your mobile passcode:
Sign out of UpNote on your device.
Sign back in with your account login password.
When you open a locked notebook again, UpNote will prompt you to reset your passcode.
💡 Tips
Locking applies to notebooks, not individual notes. Place sensitive notes inside a locked notebook for protection.
Desktop and mobile app lock settings are managed separately for flexibility.
Locking a notebook protects all notes and nested notebooks inside it.
