# Import from Bear

You can transfer your existing notes from **Bear** to **UpNote** by performing the following steps on **Mac** and **Windows** app:

1. Export your notes from Bear to **Markdown** files.
 * In Bear, select Notes in the sidebar, then select **Edit > Select All**, or use the shortcut **Cmd + A** to select all notes in your Bear app.
 * Then select **File > Export Notes > Export as Markdown**. Check the box to Export attachments. Create a new folder to export your notes to.
2. Select the option to import from Markdown files
 * On **Mac**: Select **File > Import Notes > Markdown** from the menu bar.
 * On **Windows**: Go to **Settings > General > Import from Markdown**
3. You will see the pop up as below:\
 ![](/files/Fop0tNl2F9dEiLF30Wes)
4. Click the button **Select .md files/Select folder** and select .md files/folder to import to UpNote.
5. Click the **Import Notes** button to import to UpNote

Please note that:

* While we do our best to import data from other apps into UpNote, we cannot guarantee that your data format will be fully retained due to the variety of file sources and their elements.
* To ensure performance and fair use of server resources, bulk imports are limited if they would bring your account above 20,000 notes or 10 GB of attachments. In that case, you can import up to 50 notes at a time.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.getupnote.com/import-and-export/import-content-to-upnote/import-from-bear.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
