# Import from Apple Notes

You can transfer your existing notes from **Apple Notes** to **UpNote** by performing the following steps on **Mac**:

1. Export your notes from Apple Notes to **Markdown**
   * Apple Notes does not provide a built-in export to Markdown, so you will need to use a third-party tool such as [**Exporter**](mailto:undefined).
   * Exporter allows you to convert Apple Notes into Markdown files. However, some formatting may not be preserved, as Exporter does not support all text styles from Apple Notes.
   * Attachments (such as images or files) must be copied manually into UpNote after importing.

Since Exporter is a third-party app, UpNote cannot control its performance—please review your exported files to ensure none failed during processing.
2. Select the option to import from Markdown files
   * On **Mac**: Select **File > Import Notes > Markdown** from the menu bar.
3. You will see the pop up as below:\
   ![](/files/Fop0tNl2F9dEiLF30Wes)
4. Click the button **Select .md files/Select folder** and select .md files/folder to import to UpNote.
5. Click the **Import Notes** button to import to UpNote.

Please note that:

* While we do our best to import data from other apps into UpNote, we cannot guarantee that your data format will be fully retained due to the variety of file sources and their elements.
* We recommend that you import less than 10,000 notes to UpNote to ensure the app's performance.
